Dr Van Eenennaam's internationally - recognized research and extension program focuses on the use of DNA-based biotechnologies to address applied problems of animal agriculture. Her research interests include the modification of dietary milk lipids for human health, genetic methods for the biological containment of transgenic fish, and whole genome-enabled selection approaches for livestock improvement. She is particularly interested in the beef cattle industry and leads a USDA-funded research project on "Integrating DNA information into Beef Cattle Production Systems." She currently serves as the Extension representative on the U.S. National Beef Cattle Evaluation Consortium Industry Council where she has been involved in validation of DNA-marker tests for beef cattle since 2005. She is also involved in public education and uses a variety of media to inform general public audiences about science and technology, and provides a credentialed voice on some controversial topics including cloning and genetically-engineered animals.
Dr. Van Eenennaam was the recipient of the 2010 National Award for Excellence in Extension from the U.S. Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities.
