Professional Experience
Gert Nieuwhof leads the team at the Australian Dairy Herd Improvement Scheme (ADHIS) that is responsible for the national genetic evaluations since 2008. Over this period new developments have focused on the implementation of genomic selection.
Previously, Gert was the Senior Geneticist at the Meat and Livestock Commission in Great Britain for almost 10 years. His role included the management of research projects and implementation in the field of pig, sheep and beef breeding. During this period Gert completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh on the genetics of disease resistance.
Earlier jobs include consultancies in India and Zambia, as well as breeding and genetics research in the Netherlands and France.
During his MSc in Animal Science at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, Gert spent 6 months at the USDA Animal Improvements Programs Lab, investigating the longevity of American dairy cattle.
