Topic: Genomics: Who gets the benefit? A commercial perspective

Education

B.App.Sci (Agriculture), Hawkesbury 1988.

Professional Experience

1988 to present, Genetics Australia. Breeding Program Manager since 1993.

Genetics Australia’s bull selection and progeny testing program is the largest in Australia. They are currently progeny test over 100 bulls per year, the bulk of which are genomically selected Holsteins. Genomics has been used at Genetics Australia as an aid to selection since 2007.

Peter has overseen large scale embryo importation programs such as the Eureka program which involved sourcing embryos from Europe and North America. They are now embarking on another international collaboration that will couple imported embryos and genomic screening.

Through Genetics Australia's links to the CRCs and projects with the DPI, Peter has been heavily involved with the development and now the implementation of genomic technology in the Australian Dairy industry.
